Challenge 1: Seed Suspension Stability
The most visible commercial challenge. Chia seeds are denser than most beverages — they will sink to the bottom of a bottle if the liquid matrix is not designed to keep them suspended. - Pre-hydrate chia seeds in the beverage base (water or juice) for 20–30 minutes at controlled temperature before processing
- Target a hydration ratio of approximately 10:1 (10 parts liquid to 1 part chia by weight) for full hydration
- Monitor seed size/gel formation to confirm complete hydration before proceeding
Quality control point: Seed particle size affects hydration rate. Verify that your chia seed supplier provides consistent seed size to ensure predictable hydration behavior batch to batch.
Challenge 3: Omega-3 Oxidation and Rancidity
